When removing silver amalgam fillings at his practice, Peter has a strict protocol using different precautions.
- Latex-Free Rubber Dam - This one of the most important precautions he uses. The dam acts as a barrier to isolate the teeth and ensure no mercury-containing particles are inhaled or swallowed.
- Oxygen is used during the procedure. A nose-piece delivers oxygen to to the lungs providing positive pressure to reduce inhalation of mercurty vapor.
- High Speed Suction - The amalgam filling is sectioned and removed in large chunks. High speed suction is used to avoid mercury recirculation.
- Surgery Air Filter - This is a charcoal air filter used in the surgery to filter mercury vapour from the room.
